Dental Insurance Plus, How does a typical dental insurance plan work
Question: I am wanting to know is if I buy a typical dental insurance plan what would a get out of it? I know some plans say free cleaning and X-rays but is that really all I get? Would I be able to have fillings done at a low cost?
What about the rest of the dental services do all dental insurance plan make you wait until you can have anything beyond a cleaning done? Seems to me that they offer a free cleaning as if it is something really good but you have to hope you do not need anything else for a year. Â
Answer: Sounds like you may have been reviewing a dental PPO insurance plan option. Dental PPO’s are the dental insurance plans that will normally have waiting periods for basic and major dental needs.
One normally will buy a PPO when they are trying to stay with their own dentist. If that is not your case may I suggest you look into dental HMOs insurance plans.
HMO normally does not have the long term waiting periods and they lay out the cost for all the dental services covered under the plan. You may like that type of dental plan better.
